The biggest match of the second week of the English Premier League takes place at the Emirates Stadium for a London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea. In the opening week of the 2021-22 season, the Gunners suffered a shocking 2-0 loss to newly promoted Brentford, while the Blues went about business against Crystal Palace with a 3-0 triumph over goals from Trevor Chalabah, Marcos Alonso and US international Christian Pulisic. Chelsea will receive a huge boost from the attacking side, as recently signed Romelu Lukaku is set to make his Blues debut again against an Arsenal defense which should provide him with plenty of opportunities.

LONDON (AP) – Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic tested positive for COVID-19 less than two weeks before U.S. players began showing up to camp ahead of their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel said on Friday the 22-year-old American had tested positive and isolated himself, ruling him out of Sunday’s game against Arsenal.

“Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week,†Pulisic wrote Friday in a post on his Instagram Stories. “Fortunately, I am fully vaccinated and have no symptoms so far. I can’t wait to get back to the action! Thank you for your support.”

Pulisic scored in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace last Saturday. The Blues play Liverpool next weekend before the international break.

“We are in communication with Chelsea medical staff and will work together to determine Christian’s status for the World Cup qualifiers in September,” said the The US national team wrote on Twitter.

The United States have three games crammed into a seven-day span when World Cup qualifiers begin in September.

United States coach Gregg Berhalter plans to announce his roster next week. US players from European clubs and Major League Soccer teams will travel to Nashville from August 29.

The team will play their first qualifying game in El Salvador on September 2, then host Canada on September 5 before traveling to Honduras for a game on September 8.

Pulisic converted a penalty to overtime to help the USA defeats Mexico 3-2 in the CONCACAF Nations League final in June.

The United States ended a seven-place World Cup streak when they failed to qualify for the 2018 tournament in Russia.
