BEIJING — Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the Hong Kong special administrative region on Thursday, state media said.

The trip is for the 25th anniversary Friday of Hong Kong’s handover to China from British colonial rule.

The visit marks Xi’s first trip off mainland China since the pandemic began more than two years ago.

In a brief speech upon arriving in Hong Kong, Xi said Beijing would stick to the “one country, two systems” policy which he said would “ensure Hong Kong’s long-term prosperity and stability”, according to an official English translation by state media.

The “one country, two systems” policy has allowed the Chinese city of Hong Kong to operate as a semi-autonomous region under Beijing’s rule.

Large-scale violent protests in 2019 were initially sparked by a controversial extradition bill that many Hong Kongers said went against the “one country, two systems” principle. Retail sales in the region contracted in 2019 and 2020 as protests disrupted the local economy, even before the pandemic cut Hong Kong off from overseas and mainland tourists.

Xi said on Thursday that Hong Kong had overcome “difficult tasks” and “a number of risks and challenges” in recent years, without going into details.

In a 2020 speech in Shenzhen, Xi said the mainland Chinese city should promote the development of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao — the Greater Bay Area — and enrich the new “one country, two systems” practice.

He did not specify what the “new practice” entailed. The speech commemorated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in the southern province of Guangdong.

Xi concluded his remarks on Thursday by referring to his goal of making China a greater power.

“Hong Kong will make a great contribution to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation,” he said.

Xi arrived in Hong Kong with his wife at West Kowloon train station, according to a live broadcast Thursday afternoon on state media.

The feed showed a station packed with children and adults chanting “welcome” in Mandarin and waving the flags of Hong Kong and China.

On Friday, Beijing stalwart John Lee will begin his five-year term as chief executive of Hong Kong, replacing outgoing chief executive Carrie Lam. Lee was the only candidate for the office in an election held in May.

A State of Origin fan didn’t shy away from capturing her pre-game moment as she exposed herself a little too much on live TV.

Perth fans reveled in the glow of State of Origin on Sunday night as the NSW Blues demolished Queensland to level the streak.

The action moved quickly from the opening whistle as the two teams faced off in front of a raucous crowd at Optus Stadium.

However, one fan took things to new heights before the match even started, leaving a mark in the background of a news broadcast.

An ABC News reporter in Perth, standing outside the stadium, was discussing the history of Origin matches in Perth when the fan appeared on camera.

Entering on the right of the screen, the woman – dressed in a Queensland hat and scarf – casts a quick glance at her comrades as she grabs her shirt.

The shirt is quickly raised above her chest as she dances across the screen and exits stage left as the show continues.

Eagle-eyed fans were quick to report the incident and it quickly made the rounds on social media.

Fans inside the stadium during the one-sided game in Game 2 did well, with the only incident appearing to come on the post-match broadcast, when a pitch invader attempted to cross the stadium turf Optus.

The 2022 State of Origin series is now heading to a series decider in Brisbane. The Blues cruised through five tries in the second half to win 44-12 on Sunday in a game fraught with controversy.

Some Queensland commentators are still crying foul after a controversial sin that left Maroons legends Paul Vautin and Darren Lockyer wanting answers.

It didn’t matter in the end as NSW walked away with a 28-point win – the Blues’ fourth-biggest equal margin of victory in Origin’s 42-year history.

LaLiga, Nielsen study finds younger fans consuming wider range of sports

Nielsen and LaLiga Tech, the tech arm of Spain’s top soccer league, have collaborated on a new study that found sports fans aged 34 and under claimed to follow an average of 6.3 sports, a marginal increase from to older generations. The survey is based on responses from 20,000 Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomer fans.

Fans surveyed came from 15 countries in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Fans 34 and under listed a total of 65 different sports as being of interest. Almost half (46%) of younger fans (Gen Z and Millennials) prefer watching sports on smartphones or tablets. The same group is 41% more likely than older fans to engage in fantasy sports while watching a broadcast game while 55% of Gen Z fans expect to see and interact with live stats during a broadcast, according to the report.

Of the 20,000 fans surveyed, 41% watch certain sporting events via a streaming platform. About half of this audience (47%) say they also watch traditional television simultaneously while streaming sports. According to Nielsen, Gen Z’s multi-screen consumption has increased by 10% globally over the past year, compared to a 5% increase for all demographics.

“This report highlights trends that we have been monitoring for some time; digital audiences are attracted to sports through gaming, streaming content or mobile apps, but their level of fandom hasn’t changed, in fact it may even increase,” said Fabio Gallo, Product Manager LaLiga Tech , in a press release. “Now is the time for sports organizations to prepare for change by creating proprietary digital platforms that allow a new generation to discover their content, using data analytics to create stronger fan connections than ever before. “

Two KMOV-TV and St. Louis sports icons – one on camera and one behind the camera forever connected by KMOV-TV and their love for a certain car – are now gone. Lucy (shown in the Corvette in the photo, left) died unexpectedly this week.

His name might not be familiar to you unless you read the KMOV-TV news credits, but with all the things he accomplished working there, his work is familiar to everyone at Saint Louis.

“This man has brought us more magical sporting moments in St. Louis than anyone I can imagine in regional broadcast history,” said longtime friend and former colleague Lou Tevlin. “Although sports fans didn’t know him – and frankly, with his calm demeanor, many members of the media didn’t know his name even though he ate at the same media catering halls – Don’s work has been in their living rooms, their man caves, on their tablets and mobile phones for about forty years.

A private vigil for Don Lucy II will be held tonight, with a celebration of life tomorrow at noon at First Baptist Church in Maryville, IL.

The service will be held Monday, June 21, 2022 at 12:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church Maryville, 7110 State Route 162, Maryville, IL.

KMOV celebrated Don Lucy II last year when he celebrated 40 years with the station, and then today (Monday) they paid tribute to the man who meant so much to the station for over 40 years.

To watch the tribute to Lucy. To look at CLICK HERE.

Tevlin, owner of Integrity Sports (sports player management) worked with Lucy during Tevlin’s many years at KMOV and they remained close friends until the end. He wanted to pay tribute so that Lucy’s son, Donnie, could know how much he meant to him and to the city of St. Louis. Courtesy of Tevlin, here is that tribute:

Don Lucy II commemorated by Lou Tevlin on June 18, 2022

Don Lucy II grew up in the soot-filled air in the shadow of industrial giant Granite City Steel. What seemed like a bleak start never anticipated a breakthrough into the bright lights of a truly legendary career at St. Louis Television.

With the most amazing work ethic of anyone, in any company at any time, Don Lucy II single-handedly built his own American Dream with a wife Juanita looking for a queen of beauty and an amazing son, Donnie.

Don Lucy II showed the deepest focus, will and perseverance (which is how he won the hand of Junita the beauty queen) of anyone I have ever met. When Don Lucy II got down to it, he succeeded! Honestly, think of the greatest focused faces, stares in sports history: Michael Jordan, Nolan Ryan, Jack Nicklaus, Wayne Gretzky, ok and Tony La Russa. Don was equal in his intensity. To the uninitiated, Lucy II may seem disinterested in your need for him to perform a technical miracle at the last minute to save your butt. Don heard you. Don didn’t miss a thing even though his eyes never left the switcher/board. His brain was multitasking before the word was coined.

I dubbed him “The Wizard” in the mid-1980s as I marveled watching him work. In the production truck, the Montreal Expos @ the Cardinals. Game shows were far less common in those days, but Lucy II was already an elite network-grade TD (technical director, who runs the directors’ call). So teams visiting Busch would ask Don to switch their games simultaneously, in real time, to the Cardinals broadcast/stream. When Cardinals fans saw Bob Forsch on the mound in a close shot, Don sent the Expos to broadcast a different camera angle, a close-up shot of Gary Carter at bat with name fonts and stats. Try running two games with different commands in your brain for 3 hours live? “The Wizard” was born when I realized the Expos had two shows – one in English and one in French with separate French fonts and Don Lucy II had all three “downstream” streams on his mixer. An electronic maze of wires that had less capacity than a basic application today. Absolutely amazing!

In the quietest and most modest way, Don Lucy II’s instinct, knowledge and brains personally battered the stock market for decades in a way that few Wall Street pros – if they were being honest. – could match. Don main chose his stocks and quietly, in complete confidentiality, watched them grow.

It is not what some uninformed people today call “privilege” – No! It’s the opposite of anyone interested in Facts: it’s called WORK!!!

Because DON LUCY II worked over 80 hours a week for 40 years (repeat that…pause/think about it)…countless St. Louisians – indeed generations – received their news without “technical difficulties” and enjoyed some 40 seasons of St. Louis Cardinals Championship Baseball (Ozzie to Arenado) iconic footage with indelible moments delivered by the quick reflexes and quick wit of Don Lucy II. At the Arena, Don Lucy II showed you Monday Night Miracle-era St. Louis Blues from Wickenheiser to Hull & Gretzky while delivering to living rooms, sports bars, and later tablets and cellphones …the Blue Notes’ long road to a Stanley Cup championship.

St. Louis sports fans have never missed a magical moment because Don Lucy II pressed the wrong button, for the wrong camera, at the wrong time. If it happened… no one can remember.

Imagine Albert Pujols – a surefire Hall of Famer on the 1st ballot – never scratched. In the clutch, under pressure, with high tensions and the ego is often even bigger, inside a sardine can of a production truck, next to a stadium for hours, in live, it’s a pressure cooker!

Don Lucy II never knocked… and he didn’t in life.

You have to see the Cardinals & Blues moments – from the magical to the mundane – because Don Lucy II has only slept a few hours (or less) per night for the past FOUR decades.

A rather quiet, serious man – the kind of guy we all pray is in the cockpit of our next flight, when our life is in his hands… was really a gossip with some cherished friends in whom he had the greater confidence.

His love of investing in “just the right classic cars” that would appreciate beyond imagination – except maybe Don’s imagination.
(You all get it, right? Cars are usually depreciating)
At Sports Dept @ KMOX-TV, after hearing the story of Tim Van Galder’s long-lost 1966 Corvette, Don set out to find the exact car, VIN number and purchased the vehicle from the amazement of TVG.

Oh man, could Don fly too! Yes, as a track and cross-country runner for Granite City High and later as an aviator owning a range of aircraft ranging from pre-WWII biplanes to Bonaza’s and many more to the over the years. Don Lucy II worked on many network shows, often traveling to games so he could keep up with his mind-boggling workload. Remember Moonlight Graham from Field of Dreams? Don flew out to meet an obscure 80-year-old baseball player in North Carolina or somewhere because he was curious about this man. So you get a glimpse of the often stoic Don Lucy II as a dreamer and romantic. Don was shy yes, humble absolutely… but I don’t know a single great director who doesn’t have imagination and dreams.

You will notice throughout this tribute that I refer to him as Don Lucy II. I did it intentionally because Don did it intentionally. In tribute to his father Don Lucy. You see, Don and I are the second generation of St. Louis TV. Our fathers, born before the Great Depression, were called upon to win World War II as members of the greatest generation, then returned to the United States to raise families and become “just” pioneers in the new media. of television. So when people asked how long our father had been on television, we answered… because it was the radio!

The loose lineage of Marconi & Sarnoff delivered in sparks, transmitters, microwaves to satellites and eventually the internet, digital 4K connects Don Lucy II to some of the great technical directors in broadcast history. Certainly in Saint-Louis, Don Lucy II will always be number one!

A sudden and shocking death at 62, a close friend, a longtime colleague and for the legions of those who respected and relied on him is hard to fathom. As a man of faith I know that our Heavenly Father is the ultimate achiever and makes the decisions… but on this side of the picture, the life of Don Lucy II has faded well too early.

When it comes to watching professional golf tournaments on TV, everyone is critical.

This is worth double for the majors. On a crazy Saturday with a bunch ranking, Tommy Roy, NBC’s chief golf producer, faced the difficult task of showing the drama unfold. Where was local guy Keegan Bradley? Why was the last group, with Collin Morikawa sputtering, ghosted? How many “Playing Through” ads might we see?

The complaints on social media were plentiful, and we’ll get to that, but first some applause needs to be dished out. Watching the early morning broadcast around six hours before the final group kicked off offered great insight as analyst Arron Oberholser explained the risk-reward challenge of the tee shot at 18 with help from Justin Leonard in the stand. About 10 hours later, defending champion Jon Rahm entered the left fairway bunker that Oberholser had warned viewers against and hit the lip with his second shot, eventually double bogeying and squandering his lead. If you watched this segment, you were prepared for Rahm’s 18th hole disaster.

Another highlight was a segment with former caddy-turned-analyst John Wood, who took viewers inside the footage book and explained the ins and outs of how a caddy prepares in order to helping his player that the casual viewer probably didn’t know. No Laying Up also pointed this out on social media.

Wood also proves to be a good foot soldier and helped viewers understand how, on a windy day, the course turned into a fast, firm test that led to skyrocketing scores in the afternoon.

“I’m 220 yards from that green and I could hear that ball bouncing like I was beside it,” he said. “These are firming up.”

Another strong point: 4D replays. It’s sponsored content, but these visuals are a significant improvement over the days of CBS’s Peter Kostis and Minolta Biz Hub Swing Vision, although I’d take Kostis smashing the swings on NBC’s Paul Azinger n any day. It’s like swing nerds can really learn something by watching the best players in the world through this technology.

Alright, I promised a roundup of some of the show’s most scathing reviews on social media and the reactions were fast and furious in real time. Golf News Net’s Ryan Ballengee summed up the fan divide and viewing experience in a nutshell in his tweet.

I’m going off on a limb here, but I’m pretty sure the “market research” deepfriedegg refers to below doesn’t exist.

There have been several complaints that various players have occasionally participated in the witness protection program during the telecast and have not been seen for extended periods of time, including this tweet from Josh Babbitt, wondering what happened to Bradley .

This tweet from DJ Piehowski of No Laying Up made me laugh. NBC likes to brag about how it shows every player on the court because if they’ve earned a spot on the court, they deserve to be shown. Piehowski took a playful jab at too many commercials (in his defense, NBC is shelling out a lot of money in rights fees and they have to pay the bills) and I can confirm that Mike Tirico didn’t actually say that…but, oh , if he did!

No Laying Up could be accused of hoarding its multiple tweets, but that doesn’t mean the takes are fake.

Last but not least, Geoff Shackelford couldn’t help but point out that commercials didn’t slow down when TV broadcasting peaked.

The good news is that Golf Twitter can breathe a sigh of relief: Sunday’s latest broadcast time is presented ad-free thanks to the good folks at Rolex. Last year, the Times of Malta reported that more than half of gaming revenue for major iGaming companies was generated by live dealer casino products. Many pioneering software providers that have traditionally focused on creating the best slot machine experiences for desktop and mobile users are venturing into the live dealer vertical.

NetEnt is a great example. The Swedish studio is considered one of the top seven slots providers and has been innovating the video slots scene for over a decade, bringing responsive HTML5 powered slot games to our screens, but its NetEnt Live division consists of real-time and live streams. games with a gaming atmosphere to rival any land-based casino floor.

Many consumers are drawn to the prospect of playing immersive live dealer games because they offer a land-based casino experience from the comfort of their own home. All you need is a fast and reliable Wi-Fi or 4G connection to get started. HD quality visuals are crystal clear, giving players a unique perspective of the action as it unfolds on the tables.

However, running a live casino studio is more than meets the eye. Below, we’ll explore the technology basics required by major iGaming brands to run live casino studios 24/7.

studio cameras

We might as well start with the components that are arguably the most important part of any live dealer gaming experience: the studio cameras. Positioning and clarity of studio cameras are key to ensuring a smooth and immersive gaming experience. Most live dealer table games will have multiple camera angles you can choose from, tailoring your perspective of the action right from the start.

For example, a standard live dealer roulette table will typically offer three studio camera angles. The first being a basic overview of the betting table and wheel. The second being a top-down overview of the roulette wheel exclusively, and the last being a top-down overview of the betting table.

In-game monitors

The in-game monitor is the eyes and ears of the online action for live dealers. It shows them what active players can see on their desktop and mobile screens. The in-play monitor is also useful as it can identify any players who may be taking longer than usual to place their bets, giving dealers a prompt to help newbies and maintain a steady flow of play.

The in-game monitor is also used to help dealers know when a player’s bets are lost and therefore their cards can be removed from play. It is the in-game monitor that allows dealers to interact in real time with the players, with messages relayed via the live chat box.

Trained dealers

It is also important to recognize the role that the dealers themselves play in the operation of live casino games. These dealers are professionally trained before entering the live casino studio. This means they know the rules of every game they run like the back of their hand.

Dealers are not only trained to handle and manage the flow of the game, but they are also selected for their engaging personalities. Many of the live casino dealers you’ll encounter will have a real charisma that will make every deal or spin as fun as the last.

Optical character recognition (OCR) technology

If you’ve ever played in a live dealer casino and wondered how the user interface manages to display card and hand values so quickly, it’s largely thanks to OCR technology. OCR is built into the dealer’s shoe of any card game and even roulette games like roulette. It is used to convert meaningful data – like the value of a physical card – into a digestible digital format.

When a dealer takes a card from their deck, the card is swiped over an OCR camera, which immediately captures the value of the card and overlays it on your user interface via the game control unit. OCR technology has been used since many decades to help digitize analog industries and eras. The British Library recently used it to digitize Magna Carta, and now it’s helping to bring land-based casino games to life online.

Game Control Unit (GCU)

The GCU is another key element in a live casino studio. Consider it the heartbeat of any live tabletop game. It is fixed under the gaming table, helping to maintain the flow of data from the table to your desktop or mobile screen. The GCU is designed to encode the live stream streamed to your device. This ensures the best possible viewing experience.

In many ways, live casinos would not be feasible without a rock-solid GCU to encode and encrypt the broadcast, ensuring a secure and smooth gaming environment.

A layman’s explanation of how a live dealer studio works

The process of running a live casino game varies from game to game. For the purposes of this example, we will use live blackjack to explain how the studio operates a game of blackjack with multiple online players based in different parts of the world.

To start, the dealer and the table will be broadcast live on the screens of the players seated at their table. The broadcast will be streamed and integrated into the intuitive betting interface of the live casino site you have chosen. Players can watch the dealer interact with their messages in real time via the live chat box.

Bets can be placed on the user interface by dragging and dropping virtual casino chips into the blackjack seats you wish to play. Once these bets are placed, they are removed from the screen and the action begins. The dealer deals each card via his OCR camera, which quickly relays the on-screen hand values to the players. You then have the option of playing your hand to completion through the user interface. It is possible to change your view of the blackjack table by changing the camera angle, as long as multiple angles are offered.

The live casino interfaces have also been developed to be fully responsive, ensuring players can enjoy their favorite table games on any desktop or mobile device, regardless of screen size.

Topline

Domestic broadcast rights for the next five-year cycle of the Indian Premier League – the country’s biggest sporting event – have reportedly sold for $5 billion following a two-day online auction, in part of an agreement that makes the IPL one of the most valuable. sports entities in the world.

Highlights

According to ESPNCricinfo, the TV rights for each game for the next round are $7.37 million (57.5 crore rupees) per game, while the digital broadcast rights were sold for 48 crore rupees (6. $15 million) per game.

The digital rights are said to have been picked up by Viacom18, a joint venture between Paramount and TV18, owned by Mukesh Ambani, although the league has yet to officially announce this.

Forbes contacted the league and Viacom18 for confirmation.

The IPL deal will still come in a distant second to the NFL, which is expected to average $36 million per game after its 11-year (2022-2033) deal worth an estimated $113 billion, signed l ‘last year.

The overall value of the broadcast package may increase further as league organizers have yet to auction two more packages, one of which includes additional digital rights for a set of around 18 marquee matches – including the playoffs and finals – and a second package which covers TV and digital rights for broadcast outside the Indian subcontinent.

Key Context

The combined worldwide rights for the previous five-year cycle (2018-2022) of the Indian Premier League were sold for Rs 16,347.5 crores (about $2.55 billion in 2017). At that time, the rights were purchased by Fox-owned Star, which then became part of Disney as part of its acquisition of Fox’s core properties. For the past few years, Disney had touted the IPL as one of the flagship properties of its Disney+ streaming service in the subcontinent. Disney/Star, Sony, Zee Networks and Viacom participated in the bidding process, with Amazon pulling out last week after showing initial interest.

Tangent

Earlier this year, Forbes reported that the values of the 10 urban franchises in the IPL are growing at a faster rate than even NBA and NFL teams. The report estimated that the current average value of an IPL franchise is $1.04 billion, up from just $67 million when the league launched with eight teams in 2008. The rise in team valuation was partly related to the expected bonanza of ongoing broadcast rights. at auction, as well as an economic model guaranteeing the profitability of the teams.

Large number

$1.3 billion. This is the total value of Mumbai Indians, the most successful and valuable team in the IPL. Forbes previously reported that the Indians, as of April 2022, are worth more than six MLB teams, 27 NHL teams and all MLS teams. Mumbai Indian owner Mukesh Ambani is India’s richest man and the sixth richest in the world with a net worth of $98.9 billion according to Forbes’ real-time tracker. Ambani is also the richest sports team owner in the world.
