It may seem at first that TV is a declining media channel, but the data is somewhat hanging. U.S. networks are frustrated with Nielsen’s media consumption reports not because viewership numbers are dropping, but because consumption metrics on other devices like tablets or phones are not being measured. Are people really watching TV less or are they just watching it on different devices?

For networks, this battle is important insofar as audience figures influence demand from advertisers. But if you’re an entrepreneur, a small business owner, or an expert … you really don’t have to worry about these trends.

Why? Simple: the Perception of someone on TV is still incredibly powerful. As entrepreneurs, we need to find credibility markers that can overcome skepticism in the minds of our prospects. Few marketing tactics do this more effectively than earned media and advertising, and few forms of advertising look better than broadcast television. A live TV interview is certainly good exposure, but a better solution is to grab your clip and incorporate it into your digital marketing efforts.

I have done over 60 live TV interviews over the past three years. And here’s the kicker: I booked all of these appearances myself without the help of a PR agency or publicist. If you’re curious about using TV as a way to boost your authority, but want to know how sausage is made before you dive in, here are four steps you can take to get started.

Identify your local target stations

My experience is that of television broadcast in the United States, so I will talk about it here. You must first determine the market or markets closest to you. This handy Station Index link gives you the Top 100 Designated Market Areas (DMAs); find your city or metro area, then note the different broadcasting stations.

Once on the site of a station, you will look for a contact page. Almost all stations have a page like this so that they can receive topical advice. Write down the station’s email address and phone number, then put that information aside.

Before going any further: Know that it is not necessary to have a publicist to get into television. However, this painstaking work is one of the main reasons hiring can help. Publicists do this research to free you up, and seasoned publicists often have personal relationships with producers that can dramatically improve your chances of being booked.

Look for a viable news hook

To make the news, your TV pitch must to be new. You can certainly get started with pitching your story to a TV producer to see if they’ll feature you, but including a timely information hook or awareness day can add spice to your reach.

The first time I did a live TV interview, I discussed smartphone addiction and how online marketing is manipulating us. But the way I added urgency to this pitch was to tie it into National Stress Awareness Week in November. The news hooks create a forcing mechanism for a producer; if they want to reserve your location, they must reserve it now and not “somedayâ€. Think about ways you can connect your expertise to a current or upcoming news hook, and your odds will improve.

If you’re not a big news watcher, consider setting up Google Alerts or Talkwalker Alerts to keep you in the know. I teach all my clients to set up alerts for 10 to 30 terms in their sector so that they can keep abreast of the latest buzz in their sector without being stuck in the news. Present an appropriate segment to their audience

When developing your pitch, it is important to emphasize why your pitch is ideal for the point of sale audience. Why do people want to hear about this topic and why do they want to hear about it now? Sell ​​the story first, then explain why you are the right expert to come and discuss the issue at hand.

Call the TV channel and ask to be connected to a producer. If you log in, give a high-level pitch for your story, then ask if you can send more details in an email. You can also try digging into LinkedIn or using an email address data scraper like Voila Norbert to find the producer’s contact details. Finding the right sitter is important, and sometimes that one step alone makes the difference between being reserved and being ignored.

Follow up on your pitch two to three times over the next few days while the topic is still hot. If your topic is really hot and directly related to the breaking news, a next day or same day follow-up isn’t out of the question, but don’t overdo it if you haven’t heard from after a few follow-ups. .

Nail your interview, then acquire your clip

The television moves quickly; be prepared to rearrange your schedule for a potential opportunity the same day or the next. Go over the basics of media training before you go live. I like to memorize a few stats related to the topic of the interview and then lead with those stats to make myself comfortable. As an added bonus, stats and research are a great way to appear more authoritative.

The last step is honestly the most important step of all – especially if you are an online entrepreneur – and that is to get a copy of your clip. The TV producer who booked you might be able to provide you with a link, but if it’s too busy, I use a service like TV Video Clips as a built-in security. Sky Arts and Sky Sports won two awards each and Dave landed three categories at the Broadcast Digital Awards 2022 – but they were named Channel of the Year by CBBC.

Dave nabbed Best Comedy Program for Meet the Richardsons (Second Act), Best Popular Factual Program for Big Zuu’s Big Eats (Boom Pictures) and Best Digital Media for a Stream, Channel or Genre, while Sky took won six awards in total.

Sky Sports’ coverage of the new cricket tournament The Hundred won Best Coverage of Sporting or Live Events and Gamechanger Program of the Year; Sky Arts was named Best Specialty Channel and its show Statues Reddressed, produced by Northern Town, won Best Content Partnership or AFP.

Additionally, Sky History, Sky’s partnership with A+E Networks UK, was named Non-PSB Group Channel of the Year and Landscapers (Sister) won Best Drama Programme.

CBBC was named Channel of the Year and the judges praised it for “helping children make sense of the world and entertaining them at the same time”. It also snagged a highly regarded award for Best Drama Program, for Universal International Studios’ Dodger.

BBC Studios also performed well, picking up best pre-school digital content alongside Studio AKA for The Workout Badges and being part of the winning team for Best VR & AR Experience for The Green Planet AR Experience.

More 4 won Best Factual Channel, while Best Original Web Channel went to LADbible TV for the second year in a row.

Alba Sotorra Productions & MetFilm won Best Documentary Program for The Return: Life After ISIS, while Munya Chawawa’s indie Munz Made It won Best Entertainment Program alongside Expectation for its travelogue. YouTube Race Around Britain.

Since the start of the pandemic, Clare Dawson has paid close attention to government announcements about new coronavirus restrictions, to see if it was safe enough for her to leave her parents’ home in Surrey, England.

On Monday, she was discouraged. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that people in England who test positive for the virus will soon no longer be required to self-isolate and has decided to end most free testing. Ms Dawson braced herself for more isolation, anxiety and loneliness.

“If there was someone walking the streets that you knew could kill you, would you come out?” said Ms Dawson, who has a chronic lung condition that puts her at increased risk of severe Covid-19.

The government has said it is ending the rest of the virus restrictions to help the country adopt a more grounded approach to living with the virus. But some critics say the move is premature and overlooks those most clinically vulnerable, especially the hundreds of thousands of immunocompromised people. In the United States, many immunocompromised and high-risk people have also felt left behind by the wave of restrictions being lifted.

“What happened yesterday is very concerning for the people we work with,” said Gemma Peters, chief executive of Blood Cancer UK, a charity that funds blood cancer research.

After the announcement, the charity’s hotline was inundated with calls from cancer patients asking how they should behave under the new rules and whether it was safe for them to go out in public.

“We can’t answer every call,” Ms Peters said. “People use language like ‘society doesn’t care about my death’, and I think that’s the feeling – that they’re kind of collateral damage.”

The UK government has said free testing will still be available for vulnerable people, but has acknowledged that lifting remaining legal restrictions will most likely lead to an increase in cases.

“Keep free testing for vulnerable people? It’s too late,” said Trishna Bharadia, 42, who has multiple sclerosis and has been quarantined at her home in Buckinghamshire, England, for two years. “The aim should be to prevent vulnerable people from catching Covid in the first place.”

Ceinwen Giles, 47, who developed an immune deficiency after her cancer treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, said she had only allowed people to see her for the past two years if they had d first tested negative for coronavirus.

“If I have friends who aren’t clinically vulnerable and don’t have tests,” she asked, “will I be able to see them?”

On Tuesday, Scotland also decided to roll back the latest legal requirements for coronavirus restrictions. Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s first minister, announced plans to lift mask mandates in March and said the country’s Covid certification scheme, which has been put in place for those attending large events, will end this this month.

On Monday, the UK government also withdrew guidance in England for staff and pupils at most schools and nurseries to test themselves twice a week, even if they don’t have symptoms. Infected children will also no longer be legally required to self-isolate.

Ms Giles says the fact that her 12-year-old daughter will now be sitting among potentially infected children has only increased her anxiety levels.

In England and Wales, just 16.8% of people who died of Covid from October to December last year did not have a pre-existing health condition, according to the UK government.

“If everyone had to live with Covid like we live with Covid, they wouldn’t have changed the rules,” said Ms Dawson, who says she hasn’t been able to hug her godchildren for two years. “It looks like they’ve decided that our lives and freedom aren’t as important as other people’s.”

Actiph Water has become an Official Supplier of the Liverpool 2022 Gymnastics World Championships, supplying its Alkaline Ionized Water products to event volunteers and staff.
