Hotstar’s New Original “Human” Releases January 14

NEW DELHI: Disney + Hotstar will broadcast its new Indian original, Human, January 14. The medical drama stars Shefali Shah, Kirti Kulhari, Seema Biswas, Ram Kapoor and others.

Disney +, the video streaming service owned by Walt Disney Co., said Hotstar represented about 37% of its overall subscriber base at the end of the July through September quarter. Disney + had reported 118 million paying subscribers worldwide, so Hotstar users are estimated to be around 43.6 million. However, that was a drop from August, when Disney + reported 116 million paying subscribers, including 46 million from Hotstar.

Overall, Disney + ‘s global subscriber base grew 60% in this fiscal year ended in September. The service aims to be profitable by 2024, the company said. Average monthly revenue per paying subscriber for Disney + increased from $ 4.52 to $ 4.12 due to a higher mix of Disney + Hotstar subscribers in the current quarter compared to the previous year quarter, the company said in a statement.

Novi Digital Entertainment Private Limited, who runs Hotstar, now part of Walt Disney India, reported a net loss of ??601 crore for fiscal year 2020-21, up 66% year-over-year, according to data viewed by business intelligence platform Tofler in October. In addition, the turnover for the year amounts to ??1704 crore, a 5% jump from last year, while total spending for the year was reported as ??2,305 crores.

In September, Hotstar announced a new line of pricing plans along with its latest list of originals, through web shows and movies. From September the service is available on a mobile plan only for Rs. 499 per year, for ??899 per year on two devices and for ??1,499 per year on four devices.

Hotstar was previously priced at ??399 per year for its VIP service and ??1,499 for Premium.
