Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth was seen handing out cookies and coffee “for peace” outside the courthouse on Thursday.

“The point is to show everyone that we are on the same page,†he said. “People are going to voice their opinion but we are here to do it together, we are here to do it, hopefully, peacefully.”

Two people were taken into custody on the steps of the courthouse on Wednesday as the jury neared a verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse murder trial, authorities said.

Police arrested a 20-year-old man for assault and battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police said. A 34-year-old woman was also arrested for misconduct.

Authorities said law enforcement had deployed several officers to “prevent crowds of citizens and media from intervening” during the arrests.

“The Kenosha Police Department and the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department fully recognize the importance of the media coverage surrounding the trial. The media and the public have a responsibility to give space to law enforcement agencies and to enable them to carry out their functions. Please do it, â€Kenosha said police in a statement.

The police department tweeted on Wednesday afternoon that officials were aware of attempts to misinformation on social media surrounding the trial and that there was “no credible threat to public safety” at this time.

Once the jury announces that a verdict has been rendered, it will likely take some time before the verdict is read by the court. It is not yet clear how long the jury’s deliberations could take.

NBC Chicago will send a push notification announcing that a verdict has been rendered and viewers will be able to watch it live as it plays on our stream from the courtroom. (Live stream in the player above)
