through 3 quarters

The New England Patriots need a win to tie it up, but for now it could go either way. They and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in a 13-13 stalemate after three quarters, promising an exciting conclusion. Both teams try to put their recent losses behind them.

The Patriots leaned on QB Mac Jones, who had two touchdowns and 216 yards on 29 attempts, and TE Hunter Henry, who pulled one off receiving a touchdown. Jones was efficient, scoring 161.20.

New England are struggling to protect the pocket and have allowed four sacks. They are going to have to protect Jones better if they are to have any chance of winning this game.

What there is to know

The New England Patriots homestand continues as they prepare to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 8:20 p.m. ET on October 3 at Gillette Stadium. Both teams suffered a loss in their last game, so they will have a lot of motivation to get the “Wâ€.

New England took a heavy blow last week as they lost 28-13 to the New Orleans Saints. A silver lining for the Patriots was the play of WR Kendrick Bourne, who caught six passes for a touchdown and 96 yards. Bourne’s performance made up for a slower clash against the New York Jets two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay fell to the Los Angeles Rams last week, losing 34-24. The losing team was bolstered by QB Tom Brady, who had a touchdown and 432 yards on 55 attempts in addition to a rushing touchdown. Brady had a 146.50 passer rating.

The Patriots are expected to lose that next par 7. Their home turf has not been punters’ heaven as they have failed to beat the lead in two of their two home games.

The losses put New England at 1-2 and Tampa Bay at 2-1 reciprocal. A few defensive numbers to keep in mind before kick-off: New England rank second in the league in passing yards allowed per game, averaging just 180. On the other end of the spectrum, the Buccaneers are the worst in the NFL for passing yards allowed per game, averaging 348.7.
